It was announced that the incident was caused by an underground mine belonging to New Frontier Materials. The mine official stated in his statement on the subject that no one was injured.
Alton Parks and Playgrounds Director Michael Haynes told American television channel KMOV: “The pit is approximately 15 metres deep and 31 metres in diameter. This disaster was caused by a collapse in the underground mine.”
